📌 Where It’s Used:

SAP PP (Production Planning) module — typically for configurable or variant-rich products.

📂 What Is It?

Planning Strategy 60 = Planning with Planning Material.
You plan a “planning material” instead of directly planning the end product.

✔️ Useful when you have a generic product (planning material) that covers multiple variant products.

🎯 Key Objective:

✅ Simplify planning for configurable or multi-variant products.
✅ Reduce master data maintenance for each variant.
✅ Allow MRP to plan in bulk at the generic level, then link real customer orders to the variants.

🗂️ How It Works:

✅ 1️⃣ Planning Material Master Setup

• Create a Planning Material (e.g., generic bike frame).
• Assign Strategy 60 in MRP 3 View.
• Link Planned Product (finished product) to Planning Material via Material Master → MRP 3 View → Planning Material field.

✅ 2️⃣ PIR Creation

• Create Planned Independent Requirements (PIRs) for the Planning Material — not for each variant.
• Tcode: MD61.

✅ 3️⃣ Sales Order Creation

• Customer orders actual configured variant (e.g., red mountain bike).
• System links Sales Order to the Planning Material’s PIRs — consumes planned stock.

✅ 4️⃣ MRP Run

• MRP plans based on the Planning Material.
• Planned Orders created for the Planning Material.
• When converting to production orders, you manufacture the variant.

🔗 Example Scenario:

• Planning Material: Generic Bike Frame (FG100)
• Variants: Red Bike (FG100-R), Blue Bike (FG100-B)
• PIR created for FG100.
• Customer orders FG100-R.
• System reduces PIR for FG100 by the Sales Order quantity for FG100-R.
